Faiths 4 Climate Justice: A Global Multi-religious Action

Faiths 4 Climate Justice is an international, multi-faith, day of action that will bring together faith communities on every continent and of every denomination and school.

Along with our partners in the GreenFaith International Network, Faith for the Climate is incredibly proud to be the conveners of the UK actions. The day will be a powerful moral call to tell world leaders at COP6 that all solutions to the climate crisis must be rooted in justice.

When is it?

On Sunday 17th October, at temples, mosques, churches, synagogues and other religious sites around the globe, we’ll be calling for climate justice by ringing our bells, singing, praying, meditating, calling the Azan, sounding the shofar – whatever is true to our tradition. We’ll also unfurl banners on our sacred buildings that make it clear: the time to act is now.

On Monday 18th October, dressed in religious attire, we’ll take our faiths into the streets and to our leaders’ doorsteps. We’ll deliver our demands to political and financial leaders, hold prayer or meditation vigils outside government and bank offices, sing hymns about the climate, or take action rooted in our deepest values.

Where is it taking place?

Faiths 4 Climate Justice is an international action, and in the UK actions have already been registered in Glasgow, Greater Manchester, Wakefield, Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield, and London.

To find an event near you, check out the GreenFaith map here.

On the Monday, an interfaith vigil will take place in Central London. People will gather at the Palace of Westminster to then walk to Downing Street. There, faith leaders will deliver an open letter to the Prime Minister detailing all the action faith communities in the UK have taken on climate justice. To take part, gather at the Palace of Westminster at 10am.

How can I take part?

There is still time to register your own action! If you would like to do so, you can use the form here.

If you’re unable to organise your own event, you can help build momentum and get out the word by recording a selfie video on why climate justice is important to you. You can follow the basic format of:

“Hi, my name is…. My faith tradition is… and I’m supporting Faiths 4 Climate Justice because … Join me.”

If you need inspiration, you can watch our chair, Canon Giles Goddard’s, video here, our director, Dr Shanon Shah’s, here and our movement builder, Rosh Lal’s, here.

Whatever you post, re-post or share, please remember to tag @fftcnetwork (on Twitter), @greenfaithworld (on Twitter), @faithfortheclimate (on Facebook), @GreenFaith (on Facebook), and to always use the tag #Faiths4Climate on all social media platforms.

Faiths 4 Climate Justice is part of the wider faith call to ensure we have a just COP that stands in solidarity with the most vulnerable. With only 2 weeks until Glasgow, come together with people of faith all over the world to say:

Destroying the planet is against our religions
